Cluster, and Distant Ob Associations

The Virtual Observatory is useful. I summarise some of my works where I extensively use the Aladin sky atlas. Topics cover from the search and common proper motion confirmation of very low-mass stars and brown dwarfs in wide (ρ > 1000 AU) binaries and multiple systems, to the identification and characterisation of stellar and substellar populations in young open clusters and OB associations at ...

Bright OB stars in the Galaxy

In this study we investigate the line-profile variability (lpv) of Hα for a large sample of O-type supergiants (15 objects between O4 and O9.7), in an objective, statistically rigorous manner. We employed the Temporal Variance Spectrum (TVS) analysis, developed by Fullerton, Gies & Bolton (1996) for the case of photospheric absorption lines and modified by us to take into account the effects of...

The Primordial Binary Population in OB Associations

We describe our method to find the primordial binary population in the Sco OB2 association. We present the results of our ADONIS and VLT/NACO near-infrared adaptive optics binarity surveys of A and late-B stars in Sco OB2. We combine these results with literature data on visual, spectroscopic, and astrometric binary stars. With our observations we remove part of the selection effects present in...

Interstellar CH+ in southern OB associations

Optical absorption line observations of interstellar CH+ andCHare presented towards the southernOBassociations CMa OB1,NGC 2439,Vela OB1,NGC 4755, andCen OB1.A total of 5–11 stars per associationwere observed, with visual extinctions ranging fromAV = 0.5–4.5 mag. The derived CH+ and CH velocities agree within the measurement errors. Towards a particular association, the CH+ column densityN (CH+...

The radial distribution of OB star formation in the Galaxy

We present the azimuthally averaged radial distribution of 748 regions of OB star formation in the whole galactic disk, based on our previous CS(2-1) survey of UC H II regions. Embedded massive stars produce a total FIR luminosity of 1.39 108 L within the range 0.2 ≤ R/R◦ ≤ 2 in galactocentric radius. We find 492 massive star forming regions within the solar circle, producing 81% of the total F...
